Laser treatment can cause temporary redness, swelling, a warm or stinging sensation, and occasionally blistering, crusting, or changes in skin pigmentation; scarring is uncommon but possible. The risk of pigment change is generally higher in darker or tanned skin, which is one reason wavelength and settings are chosen individually. Treatment is generally avoided over active infection, recent sun exposure or tan, and in certain skin or medical conditions, and some medications can increase light sensitivity. Sun protection before and after treatment matters. A clinical assessment is needed to confirm whether treatment is appropriate for you.
