Understanding diVa Vaginal Laser.
diVa is a laser device that delivers fractional laser energy to the tissue of the vaginal wall through a single-use, dilator-style handpiece. A fractional laser treats the tissue in a pattern of many tiny zones, leaving untreated tissue in between to support healing. We offer it as one option within our Pink Intimate women's intimate-health care, after a medical assessment by one of our physicians. Treatments are performed by our senior laser technicians, under the medical direction of Dr. Gidon Frame.
How does the diVa laser work?
The laser sends energy into the vaginal lining in a fractional pattern, creating tiny zones of treated tissue surrounded by untreated tissue. This prompts the tissue's natural repair and remodelling response, which may influence the thickness, moisture and quality of the vaginal lining over time. diVa works on the lining itself, so concerns such as prolapse, infection, incontinence or other gynecological conditions are each assessed and treated in their own right.
What diVa is used for
Within women's intimate-health care, diVa is used for symptoms such as vaginal dryness, laxity and tissue changes and discomfort, including changes linked with menopause.
It's considered once any underlying gynecological condition has been checked and treated, and alongside established treatments, which your physician goes through with you.

Benefits of diVa
diVa is an in-clinic procedure with a single-use handpiece and, for many women, limited recovery time. Some studies and patient reports describe improvement in symptoms such as dryness or discomfort. The evidence is still developing, so your physician weighs the potential benefit with you alongside better-established options before you decide. Individual results vary.
Safety, side effects and considerations
Every diVa treatment follows a private medical assessment by one of our physicians, who explains the evidence and established alternatives with you before any decision.
Common and temporary
- Light spotting or a watery or pinkish discharge
- Mild swelling, tenderness or discomfort
Less common risks
- Infection
- A flare of genital herpes, if you've had it before. Please let us know, as an antiviral medicine may be recommended.
- Burns or scarring
- Adhesions, where bands of scar tissue form inside the vagina
- Pain or discomfort that lasts, including during intercourse
Regulators, including the U.S. FDA, have cautioned that energy-based devices marketed for "vaginal rejuvenation" can carry risks, and that their safety and effectiveness for those uses aren't established. Use of these devices for dryness, laxity and menopause symptoms is generally considered off-label or investigational.
When treatment may need to wait
- Pregnancy
- An active pelvic or vaginal infection, or an active herpes outbreak
- Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
- Cervical screening that isn't up to date. We'll ask you to bring this up to date first.
- A gynecological condition that hasn't yet been assessed
- A history of gynecological cancer, or previous pelvic radiotherapy
- Lichen sclerosus or another vulvar skin condition
- Chronic vulvar pain (vulvodynia)
- Previous adhesions or scarring in the vagina
diVa doesn't treat prolapse, incontinence or cancer, and these are assessed and treated in their own right.
Aftercare
For a short time after treatment, as advised, avoid intercourse, tampons, baths, hot tubs and swimming. Contact the clinic on 604-261-9121 if you have heavy bleeding, a fever, discharge with an unpleasant smell, or pain that's getting worse.

At our physician-led clinic in Kitsilano, every diVa treatment starts with a private medical assessment by one of our physicians, so your symptoms are understood before any device is considered. diVa sits within our wider Pink Intimate care, which can include selected energy-based and regenerative options where they suit you. We've provided physician-led care in Vancouver since 2003, under the medical direction of Dr. Gidon Frame.
Your consultation. Your visit is confidential and covers your symptoms, health history, medications and goals. Your consultation with one of our physicians is $199. If you need to cancel or change it, please give us at least 48 hours' notice and we'll refund the fee or move your appointment. With less notice, or if you miss the appointment, the fee is kept.
