Melasma and deeper skin tones need particular care. In this skin, inflammation can sometimes darken pigmentation, so a gentler peel, more preparation beforehand or a different treatment may be recommended.

Your consultation
We'll look at your skin, your goals, your current skincare, medications, sun exposure and how your skin tends to heal. We'll also ask about cold sores, previous resurfacing treatments and any tendency to develop pigmentation.
You'll leave with a clear recommendation on peel strength, the recovery to expect and the result you can look forward to. If another treatment suits your skin better, we'll walk you through it.
Cosmetic consultations are complimentary. When you book a treatment, we take a card on file. New clients pay a $150 deposit that goes toward their treatment, and a $150 no-show fee applies if an appointment is missed.
What treatment is like
Beforehand. For some peels we suggest a preparation routine in the weeks leading up, which helps the result and protects against pigment change.
On the day. Your skin is cleansed and prepared. The solution is applied for a controlled time, then removed or neutralized.
What you may feel. Tingling, warmth or stinging during application, settling quickly afterwards.
Afterwards. Your skin looks pink or flushed, much like mild sunburn, with flaking starting over the following days.
Results and treatment planning
Brighter, smoother skin usually shows once flaking settles, often within one to two weeks.
Superficial peels are commonly given as a series a few weeks apart. Medium and deeper peels are performed less often.
Pigmentation tends to improve gradually over a series, and daily sun protection keeps it from returning. Your result depends on your skin, the concern being treated and how consistently you protect your skin afterwards. Individual results vary.

Recovery and aftercare
Recovery depends on the depth of the peel.
- Superficial: temporary redness and light flaking over a few days.
- Medium or deeper: more noticeable redness, peeling and swelling, with a longer healing period.
What helps: daily sun protection, gentle cleansing, and letting flaking skin come away on its own.
Hold off on sun exposure, exfoliants, retinoids and heat-based activities until our team gives you the go-ahead.
Call the clinic promptly if you notice signs of infection, unusual pain or unexpected changes in skin colour.

Possible side effects
Most reactions are temporary and depend on peel strength: redness, warmth, dryness, tightness, flaking, mild swelling, extra sun sensitivity, a brief breakout, or temporary darkening of pigmented areas before they improve.
Less common risks
Less often, a peel can cause darkening or lightening of the skin, prolonged redness, infection, a cold-sore flare, delayed healing or scarring. These are more likely with stronger peels, deeper skin tones, melasma, recent sun exposure or a history of abnormal scarring, which is why strength and preparation are matched to your skin.
When a chemical peel may need to wait
A peel may be postponed if you have an active infection, cold sore, open skin or inflammatory flare in the area, recent sunburn or tanning, a recent irritating procedure such as waxing or laser resurfacing, or a known sensitivity to a peel ingredient. Current or recent isotretinoin, pregnancy or breastfeeding, a history of keloids and some medications also affect timing or peel choice. This is not a complete list.
