Injectables & Facial Contouring

Injectable Skin Boosters

Places small amounts of injectable hydrating or regenerative product within the skin to help quality, hydration and smoothness rather than to add volume.

Injectable skin boosters in Vancouver

Understanding Injectable Skin Boosters.

Some skin does not need filling. It needs to look hydrated again.

Skin boosters place tiny amounts of a hydrating product into the skin itself, spread across an area rather than placed in one spot. The aim is smoother, better-hydrated, less crinkled-looking skin — not more volume and not a changed face shape.

If you have looked at your cheeks, neck or the skin under your eyes and thought it looks dry and finely lined rather than deflated, this is the category worth asking about.

Ask Whether Boosters Suit Your Skin →

If what bothers you isThe usual answerWhy
Dry, dull, finely crinkled skinSkin boostersThe product is distributed through the skin to hold water and improve its quality, not to build shape.
Flatness, hollows, lost contourDermal fillerVolume loss needs a product placed deliberately to restore support. A booster will not do this.
Loose or sagging skinNeither — a tightening or surgical routeBoosters improve how skin looks and feels; they do not lift tissue that has descended.
Pigment, scarring or rough textureResurfacing or a peelThose are surface and pigment problems, which hydration alone does not correct.

Many people arrive asking for one and turn out to need another, or a combination. Sorting out which problem you actually have is the most valuable part of the appointment.

Treatment options and technologies

Injectable skin boosters are one of several clinically recognised approaches to skin quality, hydration and fine crepey texture, and they are not always the appropriate one — where the concern is volume loss, laxity, pigment or scarring, a different treatment is indicated.

The options available here, selected according to clinical findings:

  • SKINVIVE — considered where smoothness and hydration of the cheek skin are the primary concern.
  • Restylane Skinboosters — considered where hydration, elasticity and fine texture are to be addressed across an area, including the neck, décolletage and hands.
  • NCTF 135 HA Boost — considered where a non-cross-linked revitalisation approach is suited to the skin being treated.

More than one is frequently indicated, given as an initial short series and then maintained periodically, rather than selected against each other.

The selection is a clinical decision, not one you are expected to make. Your skin is examined in good light, its thickness, hydration and fine texture are assessed, how much of the concern is skin quality rather than volume or laxity is established, and your medical history, medications, previous injectable treatments and any reaction to them are reviewed before a product or area is recommended.

Concerns this treatment may help

Boosters are usually considered for:

  • Skin that looks dull or dehydrated and does not reflect light well
  • Fine crepey texture on the cheeks, under the eyes, neck, chest or backs of the hands
  • Fine lines that come from dryness rather than from lost volume or repeated expression
  • Skin that makeup sits badly on, settling into fine creases through the day
  • Neck and décolletage skin that looks finely lined next to a face that has been looked after
  • Hands that look thin-skinned and papery

Ask Which Areas Are Worth Treating →

Who may benefit

Boosters suit people whose main complaint is skin quality, who are content with a gradual change, and who accept that the effect is temporary and needs maintaining.

They are not a lift. If you are unhappy with sagging along the jawline or with the shape of your face, a booster will not address it, and we will tell you that rather than treat you anyway.

The under-eye area needs particular care. The skin there is thin and prone to holding fluid, so some people swell or stay puffy longer after treatment. If you already wake with puffy eyes, this area may not be recommended for you.

People on blood-thinning medication, prone to cold sores near the lips, or with a history of reactions to injectable products should raise those points early.

Your consultation

Your assessment and your injections are both carried out by one of our physicians — Dr. Gidon Frame, Dr. Sarina Govindasamy or Dr. Teri Fisher.

We look at your skin in good light, assess its thickness, hydration and fine texture, and gently establish how much of what you dislike is skin quality and how much is volume or laxity. We review medical history, medications, allergies, previous injectable treatments and any reaction you have had to them.

You will be told plainly whether a booster is likely to give you the change you are hoping for — including when the answer is no.

None of that assessment is charged for: the consultation is complimentary. A booking fee is collected when the appointment is made, holding the physician's time for you and helping keep the schedule from being lost to no-shows.

What treatment is like

Before. Numbing cream is usually applied and given time to work.

The injections. A series of very small deposits is placed across the area using a fine needle or a cannula. Each one is quick.

What you may see immediately. Small raised blebs at each point, like tiny bumps under the skin, plus some redness. This is expected, not a problem.

Timing. Appointments are short. Boosters are usually given as an initial series of sessions a few weeks apart, then maintained periodically.

Ask How Many Sessions Your Skin Would Need →

What boosters can and cannot change

What they can improve: hydration, suppleness, fine crepey texture, and the way skin catches the light.

What they cannot do: lift sagging skin, replace lost facial volume, erase deep folds or established wrinkles, fade pigmentation, or remove scarring.

When change appears. Not on the day. Injection bumps and swelling settle first, and the quality change builds over the following weeks — often clearest once an initial series is complete.

Series and maintenance. The effect is temporary. Boosters are typically started as a short course and then repeated periodically to hold the improvement.

What influences your result: how thin or sun-damaged your skin already is, how much crepiness there is to begin with, the area treated, smoking, and how consistently you use sun protection afterwards.

Two people with similar-looking skin can respond differently, and the same person often responds differently in different areas.

Recovery and aftercare

You can generally return to your day, but plan around the first 24 hours if you have something to be seen at.

  • Small bumps at each injection point usually settle within hours to a day or two.
  • Redness and mild swelling are common, and more noticeable under the eyes and on the neck.
  • Bruising can happen. It is more likely on thin skin and if you take blood thinners, fish oil or anti-inflammatories.

For the rest of the day: leave the area alone, skip makeup where you can, and avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, hot yoga and alcohol.

Then: gentle cleansing, moisturiser and daily sun protection.

Contact the clinic straight away if you develop unusual or worsening pain, a white or dusky patch of skin, or any change in vision.

Common and usually temporary effects

Expected after treatment, and usually gone within a few days:

  • Small raised bumps at each injection point
  • Redness and warmth across the treated area
  • Swelling, most noticeable under the eyes and on the neck
  • Tenderness when the area is touched
  • Bruising at some of the injection points
  • Mild itching as the skin settles

Less common but important risks

  • Lumps or nodules that persist beyond the first few days. Most settle or can be treated, and some appear weeks or months later rather than immediately.
  • Prolonged swelling, particularly under the eyes, where fluid can linger longer than expected.
  • Infection at an injection site, which needs prompt assessment and treatment.
  • An allergic or hypersensitivity reaction to the product.
  • Product visible or palpable through very thin skin.
  • Cold sore reactivation if you are prone to them and the treated area is near the lips.

Vascular occlusion. Rarely, injectable product can enter or press on a blood vessel and interrupt the blood supply to an area of skin, or in exceptional cases affect the eye. This is uncommon but it is the reason to know the warning signs.

Contact the clinic immediately — do not wait for your next appointment — if you notice:

  • Pain that is severe, or that grows rather than settles
  • A patch of skin that turns white, or goes dusky, blue or mottled
  • Skin that becomes cold, or develops a net-like pattern
  • Any change in your vision, or pain in or around the eye

These need urgent attention. If you cannot reach us, seek emergency medical care.

When treatment may need to wait

Treatment may need to be deferred or reconsidered if you have:

  • Active infection, inflammation, a breakout or broken skin in the area to be treated
  • A cold-sore outbreak, if treatment is planned near the mouth
  • Known allergy to hyaluronic acid products or to lidocaine, where the product contains it
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • An autoimmune or inflammatory condition, or medication that suppresses your immune system
  • Recent or imminent dental work, which affects timing
  • A bleeding disorder or blood-thinning medication, which raises the risk of bruising
  • A previous reaction to an injectable filler or booster
  • An important event soon, where bruising or temporary bumps would be unwelcome
  • Expectations of lifting or reshaping, which this treatment cannot deliver

This is not a complete screening list. Your health history, medications, previous injectable treatments and the specific area you want treated are all reviewed beforehand.

Your at-home routine alongside boosters

Boosters and topical products work at different depths, which is why they sit well together.

A moisturiser hydrates the surface layer. A booster puts hydrating product within the skin, where a cream cannot reach. Neither replaces the other.

Daily sun protection matters most, because ultraviolet exposure degrades the very collagen and elastin that give skin its quality — it undoes what you are paying to improve.

Retinoids and other actives can usually continue, though we may ask you to pause them briefly around treatment.

Why patients choose our clinic

  • Physicians inject. Dr. Gidon Frame, Dr. Sarina Govindasamy and Dr. Teri Fisher assess and treat — relevant here, because the rare complications of injectables need medical recognition and prompt management.
  • We separate quality from volume before recommending anything, and will say when a booster is not the treatment that will make you happy.
  • Conservative under-eye practice. That area gets more caution than enthusiasm, because it is the one where things most often disappoint.
  • You can reach us afterwards if something concerns you in the days following treatment.
  • Established in Vancouver since 2001, with more than two decades of experience behind the assessment.

FAQ

Questions about Injectable Skin Boosters.

Not in shape. The product is spread through the skin in tiny amounts rather than placed to build structure, so it does not add contour, projection or fullness. What people usually notice is that the skin looks fresher and holds light better — a change others often read as looking well rested rather than as having had something done.

No — that consultation is complimentary. A booking fee is charged to hold the appointment time with the physician, which reserves their day for you and reduces unattended appointments. Our team explains it at the point of booking.

You should expect small raised dots at each injection point immediately afterwards. They usually flatten within hours to a day or two, but bruising can take longer, particularly under the eyes and on the neck. Leaving a comfortable margin before a wedding, a holiday or anything photographed is sensible — and if you already have a date fixed, tell us at the consultation so we can plan the timing rather than rush it.

Sometimes, but this is the area we are most cautious about. The skin is very thin and the tissue there retains fluid readily, so swelling and puffiness can last longer than elsewhere and product can occasionally be visible. If you already wake with puffy eyes, or your under-eye concern is really a hollow rather than crepey skin, a different approach is usually the better answer.

The change is a quality change, built by improving how much water the skin holds and supporting its own renewal, which happens progressively. A single session generally produces less than a course does, and results tend to be most apparent once the initial series has been completed.

Hyaluronic acid based products can generally be broken down with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which is also what makes them a comparatively forgiving option. In practice this is rarely needed with boosters, because they are placed in tiny amounts across an area rather than used to create shape, so there is little to correct.

Often yes, and it is common to combine them, since they address different things — boosters for skin quality, filler for volume, neuromodulator for expression lines. Sequencing within a single visit matters, and there are situations where your physician will prefer to separate treatments across appointments to keep swelling manageable and to know what caused what if anything unexpected happens.

No. Textural scarring is a structural change in the dermis and pigmentation is a melanin problem — neither responds to hydration. Resurfacing, peels or pigment-directed treatments address those, and they can be used alongside boosters as part of a wider plan.

A serum sits on the very outer layer and can only hold moisture where it is applied; it cannot reach the living skin beneath. Hydration by mouth supports your whole body but does not concentrate water in facial skin. A booster places the hydrating substance within the skin, at a depth topical products and drinking water do not reach.

Numbing cream is normally applied first, and most people describe brief stinging at each point rather than pain. The neck and under-eye areas tend to feel more sensitive, and a cannula is sometimes used instead of a needle in certain regions, which means fewer entry points.
