Resurfacing & Tightening
Uses controlled heat or focused energy to stimulate gradual collagen remodelling and modestly firm the skin without surgery.
Non-surgical skin tightening in Vancouver
Skin loosens because the collagen and elastin holding it taut break down faster than they are replaced. Energy-based tightening aims to prompt your skin to rebuild some of it.
Two honest points before you read further.
The change is modest and gradual. Nothing is cut, removed or repositioned, so this is firming rather than lifting. If you are hoping to wake up looking different, you will be disappointed.
It is not a facelift, and it does not replace one. For mild to moderate laxity it can do genuinely useful work. For significant sagging, it cannot.
Concerns & Goals
Visible facial creases that develop from repeated expression, collagen loss, sun exposure and skin dryness.
Softening or sagging of tissue along the jawline that can blur the once-defined border of the lower face.
Reduced firmness and mild tissue descent related to aging and the decline of collagen and elastin.
Loose neck skin, horizontal creases, or visible muscle bands that can reduce definition of the neck and jawline.
Changes in body shape driven by fat distribution, muscle loss, skin laxity, pregnancy, aging or weight fluctuation.
Skin laxity on the body related to aging, pregnancy or weight change.
Loose or excess skin that remains after significant weight loss because the skin cannot fully contract.

Energy-based tightening is one of several clinically recognised approaches to skin laxity, and it is not always the appropriate one — where there is genuine excess skin or descended tissue, a surgical opinion is the more useful answer.
The options available here, selected according to clinical findings:
More than one is frequently indicated, staged over several months rather than selected against each other.
The selection is a clinical decision, not one you are expected to make. Your skin is examined in person, the degree of laxity and the depth at which it sits are identified, and skin thickness, underlying structure, volume loss and skin tone are assessed alongside implants, medications and scarring history before any approach is recommended.
Reasonable targets for energy-based tightening:
Where expectations need managing: established jowls, a heavy neck, prominent muscle bands, significant excess skin, and marked descent of facial tissue. These are surgical problems. An energy device applied to them produces a change too small to matter, at a cost that is not.
The people who do best have mild to moderate laxity, reasonable skin thickness and quality, are non-smokers or willing to stop, and are content with a subtle improvement that builds over months.
The people who are disappointed want a lift, have substantial loose skin, expect a visible change within a fortnight, or have been told by someone else that a device could substitute for surgery.
Skin tone and quality both matter. Thin, sun-damaged or heavily lax skin responds less predictably, and darker skin tones carry a higher risk of pigment change with some heat-based platforms — a reason for careful device selection, not for avoiding treatment.
Treatment may be deferred or declined in pregnancy, with active infection or inflammation in the area, with certain implanted electronic or metallic devices depending on the platform, and with some medical conditions.
Being told that a surgical opinion would serve you better is not us turning away business. It is the more useful answer.
The examination decides the recommendation, because the platforms differ far more than the marketing suggests.
What is assessed: how much laxity there is and at what depth, your skin thickness and quality, the underlying facial or body structure, how much volume loss is contributing, and your skin tone.
What is reviewed: your medical history, medications, previous cosmetic or surgical treatment, any implants or devices, and your history of scarring, cold sores or pigment change.
What you will be told: whether an energy-based approach is reasonable at all, which platform fits and why, how gradual the change will be, what the recovery involves for that specific device, and where the ceiling of the result sits.
If your laxity is beyond what a device can meaningfully address, you will hear that rather than a sales pitch for a series.
What it costs to have that conversation: the consultation is complimentary. Asking whether a device can help your skin, and being told it cannot, carries no consultation charge. A booking fee is taken to hold the appointment, covering the physician's time and reducing no-shows.
Sessions are delivered by experienced laser technicians under the medical direction of Dr. Gidon Frame.
Before. The skin is cleansed, the area is mapped or gridded, and depending on the platform a numbing cream is applied. For some treatments a topical anaesthetic is essential rather than optional.
During. Sensations differ by device. Radiofrequency delivers brief pulses of deep heat with surface cooling. Micro-focused ultrasound produces short bursts of deep heat that many people find the most intense of these treatments. Infrared feels like sustained warmth. Fractional radiofrequency involves needle penetration plus heat.
Speak up during the session. Energy is titrated against what you feel, and a sharp or unusually hot sensation is information the technician needs immediately, not something to endure politely.
Session length and number vary widely: some platforms are designed around a single treatment, others around a course.
What it can improve. Skin firmness and quality, softening of crepey texture, modest tightening along the jawline and neck, and a general impression of better-supported skin.
What it cannot do. It cannot lift or remove excess skin, reposition descended tissue, replace lost volume, eliminate deep folds, treat platysmal bands, reduce a significant fat deposit, or deliver what a surgical lift delivers. It also cannot stop your skin ageing from here.
When change appears. Slowly. Some people notice a mild early tightening within days, but that is contraction of existing collagen. The meaningful change depends on new collagen forming and typically emerges over roughly two to six months. Judging the result at three weeks is judging it too early.
Series and maintenance. Some platforms are built around one session, others around a short course. Results are not permanent because ageing continues, so maintenance is commonly considered periodically.
What influences the outcome: your age, skin thickness and quality, degree of laxity at the outset, sun damage, smoking, weight fluctuation, genetics and general health.
Individual response varies a great deal, more than with most treatments. Some people see a worthwhile difference from the same protocol that leaves someone else seeing very little. That variability is real, and no clinic can eliminate it.

Recovery depends entirely on which platform was used.
What helps: gentle cleansing, bland moisturiser, daily sun protection, and keeping the skin cool. Skip heat — saunas, hot yoga, very hot showers — while the area is settling.
What to avoid: retinoids, acids and scrubs until the skin has calmed, and picking at anything crusting after a fractional treatment.
Contact the clinic promptly if you develop a blister, an open area, a burn, spreading redness, increasing pain, a cold-sore outbreak, or any numbness or weakness in the treated area.
Common and temporary in the treated area:
Most of this resolves within hours to a few days, with fractional treatments taking longest.
Burns and blistering. The principal risk of any heat-based device. Excessive energy, uneven skin contact, inadequate cooling or an unrecognised heat-sensitive area can produce a burn, a blister or an open wound, and a deep burn can scar or leave a permanent change in skin colour. It is the reason energy is titrated against your feedback rather than set and left.
Pigment change. Darkening or loss of pigment at treated sites, more likely in deeper skin tones, on recently tanned skin and after inflammation. Loss of pigment can be lasting.
Loss of fat in the treated area. Heat can affect underlying fat as well as collagen, producing hollowing or an unwanted gaunt look in the face. Uncommon, but it can take a long time to correct and is one reason technique and settings matter.
Other uncommon effects:
Treatment may be postponed or avoided if you have:
This is not a complete screening list. Your medical history, medications, implants, previous treatments and skin examination are reviewed before any device is selected.
Skincare will not tighten the deeper structures of your skin. What it will do is protect the collagen you are trying to build.
Sun protection matters most. Ultraviolet exposure degrades collagen faster than any device can replace it, so daily protection is less about vanity than about not undoing the treatment you paid for.
Around treatment: keep it simple. Gentle cleanser and a bland moisturiser while the skin settles, with actives reintroduced only once you have been told it is fine.
Longer term: a consistent routine appropriate to your skin, and not smoking, do more for skin quality over years than any single session does.
The honest framing: skincare maintains and protects. Where there is real laxity, it complements treatment rather than substituting for it.
Technologies Used
Thermage FLX is a non-invasive treatment that uses monopolar radiofrequency energy to heat the deeper skin with the aim of tightening and smoothing.
Ultherapy is a microfocused ultrasound platform used to help lift and tighten lax skin on the face and neck.
SkinTyte II is an infrared light-based platform used to gently heat deeper skin layers to encourage firming while cooling the surface.
Secret PRO is a multi-technology platform combining RF microneedling, fractional CO₂ laser resurfacing, and a Surgi handpiece for different treatment goals.
A needle-free facial treatment combining synchronized radiofrequency (RF) with HIFES muscle stimulation to tone and lift facial muscles, with a dedicated functional protocol for TMJ (jaw) discomfort.

FAQ
Enough that you and people who know you well may notice your skin looks firmer or smoother; usually not enough to show clearly in a photograph taken from across a room. If someone promises a dramatic lift from an energy device, treat that as a reason to be cautious rather than reassured.
There is no best one, only a best fit. They reach different depths, so the right choice depends on where your laxity sits, how thick your skin is, your skin tone, the area involved, and how much downtime you can accept. A clinic that recommends the same platform to everyone is describing its equipment, not your skin.
It varies more between platforms than between people. Infrared feels like sustained warmth and is generally comfortable; radiofrequency delivers brief hot pulses; micro-focused ultrasound produces short bursts of deep heat that many find the most intense; fractional microneedling is done under numbing cream. Discomfort during a session is worth reporting, since energy is adjusted in response.
Tell the clinic what you have had and when. Heat can affect some injectable products, and permanent or semi-permanent implants in the treatment area may change what is appropriate. It is not automatically a barrier, but treatment planning and sometimes timing depend on knowing.
Recently tanned skin holds more pigment, which absorbs energy and raises the risk of burns and of pigment change afterwards. Rescheduling until your tan has faded is a small delay compared with living with a patch of discolouration for months.
Frequently, yes — they address different things, with tightening working on skin quality and firmness while injectables address volume and movement. What matters is sequencing and spacing, since treating an area soon after injectables is generally avoided. Plan the combination at consultation rather than booking piecemeal.
It happens, and it is worth going in knowing that. Response to collagen-stimulating treatment varies genuinely between individuals, and factors such as age, skin quality, smoking and sun damage all influence it. If a full course produces nothing, repeating the same protocol is rarely the sensible next step — reassessing whether the problem was ever a skin-quality problem is.
Only if the laxity is mild. Skin that has been stretched substantially often cannot contract enough for an energy device to make a visible difference, and where there is genuine excess skin the honest answer is surgical. It is worth having the area examined so you get a straight assessment before spending anything.
Not as soon as most people would like. Because the result depends on collagen forming over months, repeating too early means judging and treating before the first result has arrived. Spacing is planned around the specific platform, and waiting to see the full effect is usually the better decision.
The consultation itself is free of charge, so there is no fee attached to having your skin examined and hearing an honest view — including the view that surgery would serve you better. What is charged is a booking fee to hold the appointment, which covers the physician's time and cuts down on no-shows.
