Acne & Skin Health
A non-invasive facial that cleanses, exfoliates, gently extracts and hydrates the skin, with little to no downtime.
Hydrating and clarifying facials in Vancouver
Some weeks your skin simply looks tired — dull, a little congested, not quite comfortable. That is exactly what this treatment is for.
It cleanses, lifts away dead surface cells, clears congestion from pores, and puts hydration back in, in a single unhurried session. You leave looking fresher, and there is nothing to recover from.
We will be honest about what it is. This is a maintenance and comfort treatment, not a medical one. It is lovely before an event or as part of a regular routine, and it is not the answer to persistent acne, rosacea or pigmentation.
Concerns & Goals
Acne is a skin condition that can affect people of all ages and skin types. Our physicians assess what is happening in your skin and help you choose an appropriate medical treatment, maintenance and preventive plan as well as your at-home skincare.
Excess oil with clogged pores, blackheads, whiteheads, or uneven texture.
Visible pores and an irregular skin surface often linked to oil, acne, or aging.
Skin that looks less smooth or radiant and feels uneven because of surface irregularity.
Skin that feels dry or tight and looks less smooth, hydrated, or radiant.

A hydrating and clarifying facial is one of several clinically recognised approaches to dullness, dehydration and surface congestion, and it is not always the appropriate one — where the concern is acne, pigmentation or texture, a facial is not the treatment indicated.
The options available here, selected according to clinical findings:
A manually performed version, using adjusted exfoliation and topical products alone, is considered where skin is reactive, recently treated or otherwise not suited to the device.
The selection is a clinical decision, not one you are expected to make. Your skin is examined in person, its type, sensitivity and the amount of congestion present are assessed, and your current actives, recent treatments, skin conditions, allergies and medications are reviewed before the steps and the strength of exfoliation are set.
A hydrating and clarifying facial may be considered for:
Be realistic about what it does not do. It will not clear inflammatory acne, fade pigmentation, soften established lines, tighten skin or improve scarring. Skin often looks brighter overall, which people sometimes mistake for a change in pigment, but the pigment itself is untouched.
Most skin types tolerate this well, which is part of its appeal. It suits people who want their skin looked after regularly, who feel congested and dull rather than unwell, and who cannot spare any downtime.
Sensitive and reactive skin can usually be accommodated by adjusting the exfoliation and the products used — but tell us before, not during. Skin that reacts easily needs a gentler version, not the standard one.
Some situations mean modifying or waiting. Active inflammatory or cystic acne, a rosacea or eczema flare, recent sunburn, or recent resurfacing all mean the skin is already irritated, and adding exfoliation to irritated skin does not calm it.
If you use strong actives — retinoids in particular — say so. Your skin is already exfoliating faster than usual, and treating on top of that without adjusting is the most common cause of an unhappy reaction.
If your concern is acne rather than congestion, a facial is not the treatment you need. It can complement medical acne care, but it will not stand in for it.
Even a gentle treatment starts with a proper look at your skin.
We assess your skin type, how sensitive or reactive it tends to be, how much congestion is present, and whether your skin is currently calm enough to be treated at all.
We ask about your current routine and every active ingredient in it, any recent treatments, allergies or ingredient sensitivities, skin conditions such as eczema or rosacea, whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and any medication affecting your skin.
We also ask what you are hoping for and when. If there is an event, that changes the timing advice. If you are describing acne, pigmentation or texture, we will tell you plainly that this treatment is not aimed at those and suggest what is.
And the money question, answered up front. The consultation is complimentary — asking whether this treatment suits your skin costs you nothing. A booking fee is charged to hold the appointment itself, which reserves the clinician's time for you and keeps no-shows down.
The steps, the strength of exfoliation and the products used are then adjusted for the skin in front of us rather than run to a fixed formula.
Who performs it. Your facial is carried out by our experienced estheticians and laser technicians, working directly under the guidance of our physicians — Dr. Gidon Frame, Dr. Sarina Govindasamy and Dr. Teri Fisher.
It is a comfortable treatment. Most people find it relaxing, and many find the extraction stage oddly satisfying.
Cleansing and exfoliation. You may feel a light tingle or a cool sensation. Nothing should sting sharply — say so if it does.
Extraction. A suction sensation, or gentle pressure. This is the part that can feel slightly uncomfortable around the nose and chin, where congestion is usually heaviest.
Hydration and finishing. Serums, moisturiser and sun protection to close.
Afterwards. You can put makeup on and go straight back to your day, though skin usually looks better without it. There is no recovery.
What this treatment can improve: immediate brightness and clarity, hydration, surface smoothness, surface congestion, and how well your skincare absorbs afterwards.
What it cannot do: treat inflammatory acne, fade pigmentation or sun damage, soften established lines, tighten skin, or improve acne scarring. It works at the surface, and those concerns are not at the surface.
When you see it. Straight away, and often at its best a day later once any mild redness has settled and skin has fully absorbed what was applied.
How long it lasts. Weeks rather than months. Your skin continues shedding cells and producing oil, so congestion and dullness gradually return — which is why people who like this treatment tend to have it periodically rather than once.
What influences your result: how congested your skin was to begin with, how oily or dry it is, how consistent your home routine is, sun exposure, and how recently you were last treated.
Someone with a great deal of congestion often notices more dramatic change on a first visit than someone whose skin is already well maintained — and that is a sign of where each is starting from, not of how well it worked.
Anti-Aging Medical & Laser Clinic
Anti-Aging Medical & Laser Clinic can help you understand this treatment, explore related technologies and concerns, and build a plan around your goals.
There is no downtime, but your skin has just been cleansed, exfoliated and worked on, so treat it gently for a day or two.
What to expect: skin that feels clean, soft and slightly plumper. Some people have mild redness or warmth for a short time, and small marks where extractions were performed usually settle within hours.
What helps: keeping your routine simple and hydrating, and applying sun protection — freshly exfoliated skin is more sun-sensitive than usual.
What to skip for a day or two: retinoids, acids and scrubs, hot yoga, saunas and steam rooms, and anything else that might irritate skin that is already freshly exfoliated.
Leave any extraction marks alone. Squeezing at what remains is how a satisfying facial turns into a mark that lasts a fortnight.
This is a gentle treatment and most people have no after-effects at all. Where they occur, they are mild and short-lived:
Occasionally the skin reacts more than expected. Less commonly you may experience:
Most of these are avoidable, which is why we ask what you are using on your skin before we begin rather than after. Tell us during the treatment if anything stings sharply — it can be stopped or changed on the spot.
We would postpone or modify treatment if you have:
This is not a complete screening list. Your skin condition on the day, your current products, recent treatments and any medications are all reviewed before we begin.
How your skin looks between facials depends far more on what you do daily than on what happens in one appointment.
We can suggest products suited to your skin, and we will tell you when a home routine is genuinely all your skin needs.
Technologies Used
HydraFacial is a device-based facial treatment that combines fluid-assisted exfoliation, gentle suction to remove surface debris, and application of hydrating and conditioning topical solutions.

FAQ
Leave a few days rather than treating the day before. Most people look their best a day or two afterwards, once any mild redness has settled and disturbed congestion has finished surfacing. Occasionally a small spot appears in that window, which is far easier to manage with a few days in hand than the morning of a wedding.
Yes — the consultation itself is complimentary. What you pay when you book is a fee that holds the appointment time, covering the clinician's reserved time and helping reduce missed appointments. The team will explain it as you schedule.
Usually yes, for a short period, and this is worth asking about when you book. Retinoids and exfoliating acids already speed up how fast your skin sheds, so exfoliating on top of that is the most common reason someone leaves a gentle facial with irritated skin. Tell us exactly what you use and how often, and we will advise when to pause it and when to restart.
One of our experienced estheticians or laser technicians, working directly under the guidance of our physicians — Dr. Gidon Frame, Dr. Sarina Govindasamy and Dr. Teri Fisher. A facial involves no needles, so it does not need to be performed by a doctor; what it does need is someone who works on skin every day and knows when to ease off. The physicians set how these treatments are delivered and are on hand in the clinic, and if your skin turns out to need medical attention rather than a facial, that referral happens under the same roof.
Done on properly softened skin and with the right pressure, no. Pores do not stretch permanently from being cleared — they look smaller afterwards because they are emptier. The damage comes from force: pressing hard on congestion that is not ready to lift can bruise the surrounding skin and leave a mark. This is precisely why unsuccessful extractions are left rather than pushed.
Congestion that was already forming below the surface gets disturbed and comes up sooner than it would have. It is not new acne and it usually settles within a few days. If it happens every single time, that is useful information — it often means the underlying issue is acne rather than simple congestion, and needs a different kind of treatment.
No. A facial works at the very surface with mechanical and mild exfoliation, gives an immediate refresh and involves no downtime. A peel uses a chemical solution to remove layers of skin more deliberately, works on concerns like pigmentation and texture that a facial cannot reach, and comes with flaking and recovery. They serve genuinely different purposes, and one is not a lighter version of the other.
The benefit is measured in weeks, so people who make it part of their routine usually return periodically rather than once. What actually determines your interval is how quickly your skin re-congests, which depends on how oily it is, your environment, your makeup and your home routine. Someone with very oily, congested skin will notice the difference fading sooner than someone whose skin is dry and well maintained.
Often yes, when your rosacea is settled and the treatment is adapted — gentler exfoliation, no heat, careful product choice, and no vigorous extraction. When your skin is actively flaring, it is better to wait, because stimulating inflamed skin tends to worsen the flush rather than calm it. Tell us at booking so time is allowed to adjust the treatment.
Sometimes, and it can be a useful complement — but it depends on what you are taking. Skin on strong topical actives or oral acne medication can be fragile and much more easily irritated, and some medications mean waiting altogether. Tell us what you are on and who prescribed it, and the treatment can be timed and adjusted around your medical care rather than working against it.
Usually yes, particularly if your skin was congested to begin with — that first session tends to be the most striking. Skin looks brighter, feels smoother, and takes your products better. What one session will not do is change anything structural, so if you are hoping to see lines, pigment or scarring improve, this is the wrong treatment and you would be better spending on one aimed at that concern.
